A PAEDOPHILE has been jailed for more than ten years — for historic child abuse on the Isle of Wight.

Robert Duncan, now of Chapel Walk, Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex, appeared before a judge at Portsmouth Crown Court on Friday (April 29).

On March 21, 2022, the 61-year-old was found guilty by jury of sexually assaulting a child, and two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, between May 14, 1999 and May 13, 2015.

The court heard, some time between 2014 and 2015, Duncan had sexually assaulted his first victim — an eight year old girl.

Then, between 2012 and 2015, Duncan touched his second victim — sexually — while she was between 13 and 15 years old.

Judge Timothy Mousley QC said the third offence took place a significant time later, and involved sexual activity with the same victim.

The offending took place in the family home of the victims, on the Isle of Wight.

Both girls were described as very vulnerable, and having very difficult childhoods.

Judge Mousley said Duncan was aware of all the features in their lives, and the problems they experienced increased their vulnerability.

"The impact on the two girls is profound, and will continue to be," said Judge Mousley.

"You took away their innocence, and each of them is on the long path to recovery now.

"Each one of them has had the courage to see this through, so justice had been done.

"You simply did not care how much harm you would cause them."

Duncan was given a 12-year prison term and a sexual harm prevention order was made.

He was placed on the sex offenders register, barred from working with children or vulnerable adults, and ordered to pay a £120 surcharge.
