A POWER surge was likely to have caused the traffic lights at a busy Southampton junction to fail two days in a row.
On Monday and Tuesday, the signals at Bitterne Road West’s junction with Bullar Road were not working for more than an hour at a time.
The city council had to send an engineer both times – who has now identified the cause of the issue.
A power surge tripped out the site on Monday and the lights were "quickly restored”, said a spokesperson.

On Tuesday, the lamp switch card developed a fault, which was more than likely related to the power surge.
Traffic was not too heavy at the time and drivers could be seen edging their way across the junction.
This section of the dual carriageway was closed between 10pm on Monday night and 5.45am yesterday morning.
