AN EAST Cowes woman caught twice over the drink-driver limit and in possession of cocaine has been banned from the road.

Joanna Townley, of Orchard Road, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday (May 3).

The 31-year-old admitted drink driving in Rookley, on Main Road, on April 14.

She also admitted possession of cocaine, in Newport, on the same date.

Prosecutor, Ann Smout, told the court Townley had been stopped at approximately 9pm, after officers spotted her driving too quickly.

She was asked to provide a roadside breath test and immediately admitted she had been driving over the limit.

She registered a breath-alcohol reading of 85 when the legal limit is 35.

At the police station, Townley's bag was searched, and a number of small wraps were found, containing cocaine.

Mrs Smout said Townley co-operated fully at the police station and admitted the cocaine was hers.

Oscar Vincent, defending, said Townley had no previous convictions and pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.

He said she worked long hours as a chef, and had been been having a drink at home. A friend called and the pair arranged to meet, and Townley felt OK to drive.

Mr Vincent said she had been stopped en route, but there was nothing to suggest she had been driving erratically, and no drugs were found in her system.

Townley was disqualified from driving for 20 months and fined £416.

She was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £42 surcharge.
