A RYDE man has admitted possession of more than 100 extreme images showing bestiality — plus a moving image showing child sex abuse.

Luke Targett, 58, of George Street, appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court today (Tuesday), where the bench declined jurisdiction to sentence him and sent the case to the Isle of Wight Crown Court.

Targett will now appear in front of a judge for sentencing on May 20.

He admitted between March 17, 2019, and August 18, 2020, possession of extreme pornographic images, namely 126 moving and 11 still, which portrayed, in an explicit and realistic way, a person performing an act of intercourse or oral sex with a live animal which were grossly offensive, disgusting or otherwise of an obscene character.

He also admitted making an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of a child — which Ann Smout, prosecuting, said showed a real child being abused.

He was caught with the images after an investigation by Hampshire Child Abuse Team who executed a warrant at his home address and seized his desktop computer and hard drive.

Mrs Smout said Targett said he had searched 'out of curiosity' and was disgusted by what he found, deleting the files.

He insisted he had no sexual interest in children.

Mrs Smout said: "He asked for the case to be heard behind closed doors but of course that is not how we deal with offences in this country."

Oscar Vincent, representing Targett, said he was a man of previous good character with no convictions and who showed clear remorse.

The probation service will now prepare a pre-sentence report.

Targett will be made subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
