The closure was in place between Fair Oak Infants School and Knowle Lane.
Works were originally due to be completed on Friday.
Councillor Steve Broomfield had spoken with the foreman at the site who told him that the workman needed to remove "another couple of metres of road surface" as well as remove and replace "a stretch of pavement to the right".
