The Isle of Wight's county town of Newport has made it into a top ten of Best Places to Live in 2022.

A property finding firm ranks our biggest town among its places to be, when it comes to  buildings, quality of life, surroundings and how environmentally friendly the area is.

Newport also scores high for affordability, with the average price of a family home costing less than £350,000.

It meant the town was placed 3rd among more than 600 locations in its price bracket.

Research by Garrington says Covid-19 saw us reassessing how we live and a "significant shift" was recorded by its Places to Live Index.

Only seven of the top 20 locations of 2021 remain there for 2022, with Newport sneaking in at 10, this year.

The south of England fares best, with Bath (Somerset) retaining the top spot and Lyme Regis (Dorset), Salisbury and Wilton (Wiltshire), Fowey (Cornwall) and Folkestone (Kent) all winning top ten places.

Newport's architectural beauty and green credentials gives it a significant boost, according to the property firm.

Garrington said: "After another exceptional year for the property market, activity remains brisk, with buyers searching for the perfect location that offers everything they are looking for in a new home."
