AN UNRULY passenger who boarded a Wightlink ferry without a ticket has been dealt with by means of a a community resolution, the police have said.

It means the investigation has now concluded and no further action will be taken.

The woman's behaviour caused delays on the Fishbourne to Portsmouth route for up to an hour per sailing on Friday.

Police had to be called at 11.26am to the public order incident on Victoria of Wight at Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth.

A 61-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

Police said it was alleged she boarded the ferry without a ticket and became aggressive and abusive.

Wightlink described it as a medical incident.

The matter won't now need to go to court.

A community resolution is an alternative way of dealing with less serious crimes, allowing officers to use their professional judgement when dealing with offenders.

It can be used for offences such as low level public order, criminal damage, theft, and minor assaults.

Examples of a community resolution could include a simple apology, an offer of compensation or a promise to clear up any graffiti or criminal damage.
