A RYDE man who smeared faeces in a police cell and drove without insurance or a licence has been sentenced.

Joseph Long, of William Street, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Thursday (April 14).

The 37-year-old admitted a string of offences, including criminal damage to a police cell — by smearing faeces around it — on March 5, 2022.

He also faced charges for possession of cannabis, failure to provide a specimen for analysis, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

Long was disqualified from driving for three years and made subject of an 18-month community order, to include 25 rehabilitation days.

He was fined £80 and ordered to pay £30 compensation, costs of £75 and a £95 surcharge.
