Sara Handley's son, from Newport, received a Cadbury buttons Easter egg, bought from Waitrose in East Cowes.
Upon cracking open the egg, he found a dead slug and its slime.
Sara posted on an Isle of Wight Facebook community page to warn others to check their Easter eggs before taking a bite.
The slug inside her son’s egg had left a slime trail and had started to melt into the chocolate.
Mondelez International has owned Cadbury since 2010.
A Mondelez spokesperson said: “We’re sorry to hear about this experience.
"Quality is of paramount importance to us, and we will be contacting the customer to understand more and carry out a full and thorough investigation."
