Isle of Wight band Wet Leg has been named the UK's number one album on the official charts...but the quirky duo's debut release is also number one in Australia.

If you missed it yesterday, BBC DJ Scott Mills broke the UK news live on Radio 1.

The new release outsold the rest of the Top 5 combined, earning them the second-biggest opening week for any chart-topping album in 2022, so far.

Wet Leg told OfficialCharts.com: "We just want to say thanks to all of our fans that have bought the record, and that means we can be Number 1."

On social media, Wet Leg said: "It’s been such an unexpected journey for us hobbits, so to find our shmalbum at number 1 is incredible!!

"We are lost for words and left feeling like we’re wearing our mums' high heels!"

Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers have also smashed the Australian album charts.

They swept into first place on the ARIA Top 50 Albums Chart, above Olivia Rodrigo's Sour.

In Ireland, the album, which was released on April 8, is sitting at number 4 in the charts.

See them at the Isle of Wight Festival in June.

Its organisers were among those congratulating the duo yesterday (Friday).
