Here at the Isle of Wight County Press we get bombarded with press releases...but this one took the biscuit.

Delighted as we were to know that according to data site SugarDaters, one Isle of Wight area was a haven for women looking for love, there was just one problem.

There is a reason there are 105% more men than women in Parkhurst ward...and it is not one that would exactly have the ladies swooning.

It is, as Islanders know, home to HMP Isle of Wight, housing around 1,100 male prisoners, many of them convicted sex offenders.

So that could be a strong reason for the male-female imbalance!

SugarDaters' press release tells us: "Other Electoral wards where it’s easy for a woman to find love in the Isle of Wight are Shanklin Central (0.72% more men than women), East Cowes (4.1%), Whippingham and Osborne (4.8%) and Brading, St Helens and Bembridge (4,9%)."

All within the bounds of normal statistical imbalance.

We are also told that the IW electoral ward where men are most outnumbered by women is Newport East, where there are 21.8% more females.

Perhaps someone should have done their research before relying on data?
