Southern Water will be asked to give some real answer as to how it will solve Seaview's sewage outfall issues at a public meeting on Tuesday.

Residents will quiz representatives of the utility giant on when and how it intends to put a stop to sewage being dumped in the Solent off the village.

Raymond Simonds, one of the organisers of the meeting, at Sea View Yacht Club, on Tuesday, April 19, at 6pm, said members of the village community would be armed with ten questions for Southern Water manageement, which had sgreed to face the music.

All are welcome to attend.

He told the County Press: "This dumping has got to stop...it's disgusting.

"We had been told that following survey work, actual improvement work would start later this month but that seems optimistic and we feared there will be no improvement for this summer season, when people want to use the beaches and swim and sail in our waters.

"There are lots of points we want to put to them, such as will the pipe near the dinghy park be buried to allow the easy movement of boats."

Cllr Dave Adams, of the IW Council and Nettlestone and Seaview Parish Council, had arranged the meeting.

Raymond added that Southern Water had agreed to replace the shattered sewage outfall pipes, one in front of The Old Fort, the other in Sandy Cove / Seagrove Bay and recently embarked on surveys and planning to replace them both.

Island MP Bob Seely had been due to attend after he flagged the residents' concerns and received reassurances from Southern Water earlier this year but he has parliamentary business now.

Mr Seely said: ""Southern Water confirmed its commitment to repair the main Seaview Outfall (Combined Sewage Overflow) when I met with their team on the Island in February.

"This outfall lies east of the Old Fort and has been responsible for sewage flow onto the beach on occasion.

"Southern Water also gave me assurance that they will deal with any potential issues with piping in Sandy Cove and the Salterns.

"I am pleased that Southern Water has invested £56million into making improvements to its network on the Island, both in Seaview and other areas.

"I am grateful to Seaview residents and councillors who have pressed, and continue to press, Southern Water on this."
