A YOUNG herring gull has been terrorising a border terrier puppy in Sandown, stealing her toys and attacking her water bowl.

Peg is a 15-week-old border terrier who has lived on St Pete Way in Sandown for seven weeks with owners Mark and Ellie.

The herring gull, called Cedric by a neighbour – a name that caught on within the community, flies down to the property every day, drinks from Peg’s water bowl and then flips it over.

Peg takes her toys outside with her but often forgets to bring them back inside, giving Cedric the perfect opportunity to swoop down and steal them.

The gull has stolen a couple of soft toys and balls and several of Peg's squeaky toys.

Cedric the herring gull has been terrorising the pup for a month.

Two witnesses saw Cedric flying away with one of Peg’s toys and watched as he dropped it on to nearby Avenue Road.

Recently, Cedric stole a squeaky rubber chicken from Peg, taking flight, before dropping the toy on the roof.

Wising up to the crafty bird, Peg keeps her toys close to her bed, and if she hears the dreaded name Cedric, her ears perk up.

Her owner Mark told the County Press: “If Cedric sees something in the garden that’s colourful, he’ll come down and grab it.

“Peg has started to react [to Cedric standing in the window] and will go to the patio doors and watch Cedric like a hawk.”

If you spot some dog toys littered around Avenue Road, you’ll know Cedric has struck again, and poor Peg has lost another toy.
