Award winning Isle of Wight chef, Robert Thompson, has unveiled his next challenge. He is the new Chef Patron at a luxury boutique hotel in Cowes.

Posting on social media, the Michelin Star winner says he "can’t wait to welcome guests" to the Grade II listed, exclusive, North House, on Sun Hill.

He has been based at his Newport town centre restaurant, Thompson's, which he has described as an "incredible run," announcing it is "on to the next challenge."

In December, as the County Press reported, the Town Lane eaterie unveiled plans to open over five dates, in January and February, 2022. It was fully booked within two hours.

Robert said at the time he had, along with the rest of the hospitality industry, been hit by the impact of Covid-19.

On social media on Sunday, Robert Thompson said: "Keep watching for the restaurant and hotel online bookings going live, as well as some menu teasers!

"The past few years have been brutal for so many.

"I’m super thankful for having such a brilliant team, awesome guests, friends and family who’ve stood by me."

"It’s on to the next chapter. I couldn’t be more excited to start North House."

  • In the meantime, Robert is recruiting and can be contacted via email at rt@northhouseiow.com.

He also revealed that his cook-at-home delivery service, You Be Chef, which he started during the Covid-19 lockdown, will continue.

Speaking in December, Robert said: "The at-home boxes have basically kept my business alive. I don't think the norm exists anymore.

"You Be Chef isn't for everyone, but we've had customers from all over ordering our food, from Scotland to Cornwall to London."

It offers fine dining at home, via a meal kit box scheme, delivered nationwide.
