STAFF from KFC Lake and Newport took to the streets around the Isle of Wight to litter pick yesterday (Tuesday), to mark the launch of the Great British Spring Clean.

Island councillors Paul Brading, Adrian Whittaker and John Marshall joined twelve KFC team members to tidy up the Island.

The fast-food restaurant chain announced a series of new litter commitments, including a £40,000 fund to support and equip litter picking groups to tidy up local areas.

As we enter spring and people spend more time outside soaking up the warmer weather, the impact of litter across high streets, retail sites, parks and other green spaces have become a more noticeable eyesore for Island communities.

KFC is increasing calls on its fans to #Don’tBeATosser and help keep areas tidy throughout the Island.

Restaurants across the county will erect 15ft banners brandishing the slogan #Don’tBeATosser.

Cllr Paul Brading said: “Myself along with Cllr Whittaker, Cllr Marshall and his wife Kaye, were delighted to help support the wonderful KFC initiative to litter pick areas around their Lake restaurant.

“Personally, I was amazed just how much litter we collected in two hours, and items ranging from lots of drink cans, discarded face coverings, to even a pair of training shoes!

“Thank you to all the managers and staff of KFC that took part in a real community effort.”
