What happened to the Isle of Wight sisters?

The sisters had decided to stay together overnight, with their beloved sixteen-year-old pet dog, who was unwell.

The next morning, Mabel Hunt was dead and her sisters, May Tutt, 69 and Maud Hunt, 74, were unconscious beside her.

The two women were taken to the Royal Isle of Wight County Hospital, Ryde, but later died.

Tragically, their brother, Alfred Hunt, 79, discovered them when he brought them tea the next morning.

He had gone to bed, leaving them together.

In February 1960, a coroner ruled the women's deaths were accidental and linked to carbon monoxide, blown into the room after high winds dislodged a chimney cowl.

Can you help Gillian find more details about the tragedy?

The siblings lived at Lansdell in Nettlestone.

They were nicknamed Maudie, Maisie and Mabbie.

Gillian Tutt is now hoping to find the exact location of the home, which has since been knocked down.

She is keen to hear information about the sisters, their lives and what happened that day.

Her grandmother, May, had moved back to the Island after the death of her husband, moving in with her two sisters and their brother.

Gillian's father, Francis "John" Tutt helped identify the women after they died.
