TESCO has revealed more details as it prepares to open its new Freshwater superstore.

The supermarket is taking over the former Co-op store, which closed in February.

Among the highlights will be EV charging points for free use, a Post Office, and local suppliers.

The superstore will open on Thursday, March 24, creating 70-plus roles for the community – with more than 60 people joining from the former Co-op.

In addition to providing fresh food, ready meals and other supplies, the new store will stock items from a number of local suppliers, including the Isle of Wight Tomato Stall.

Tesco to open store in Freshwater

Kevin Smith, store manager, said: “I’m incredibly proud that the newest Tesco store will be opening in Freshwater and I look forward to opening our doors and welcoming all the familiar faces.

“Our colleagues in stores are the heartbeat of Tesco and their local knowledge and commitment means that we can serve customers, communities and the planet a little better every day.”

Freshwater Tesco to run community grant programmes

The store will be running all Tesco’s community programmes, which provide grants and food donations.

Applications are open to all local good causes, with a particular focus on projects supporting young people and those providing food.

The scheme has already donated more than £184,000 to 78 local causes and community groups on the Isle of Wight.

Freshwater Tesco to donate food locally to food banks

The store will be part of Tesco’s Community Food Connection (CFC), which takes surplus food still fit for use and donates it daily to local groups and food banks.

The new store will also feature Tesco’s Clubcard scheme, with exclusive deals in-store and online.

When will the new Freshwater Tesco superstore open?

The store will be open seven days a week, 7am to 10pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
