AN ISLE of Wight furniture store has donated a considerable number of mattresses to war-torn Ukraine.

Solent Beds and Furniture, which has stores in Lake and Newport, has donated 19 Komfi mattresses from its warehouses.

A spokesperson for the business said: "We stand with Ukraine during this terrible situation which has unfolded in recent weeks.

"Many have been separated from loved ones, left without a roof over their heads or basic living essentials.

"We will be doing all we can to provide support to Ukraine.

"Our team has worked incredibly hard this week, sourcing 19 rolled mattresses from our warehouses to donate to the people of Ukraine.

"We hope that our small part helps provide some much-needed rest and relief for some of these innocent victims.

"The mattresses we provided were Komfi brand — British-made and fully recyclable."

Melissa Groves, for the Isle of Wight Community Help for Ukraine Facebook group, said: "Thank you to everyone who helped today for the Ryde Elim Church drop-off point.

"Also, a massive thank you to Solent Beds and Furniture; absolutely amazing. Well done, everyone."

Victoria Dunford, who is helping lead the Isle of Wight's response to the crisis, says two trucks, carrying some 44 tones of items, is en route to Ukraine from the Isle of Wight.
