TEDxLukelyBrook arrived at Newport’s Quay Arts on Wednesday, for a day of enlightening and inspiring ideas, shared by a range of guest speakers.

The main event took place in the Anthony Minghella Theatre at the Quay Arts Centre, where Islanders of all ages turned out to listen.

Among the audience were 200 students from Island schools, who watched online from across the Medina, in the Trafalgar Room at the Riverside Centre.

We went along to find out what it is all about.

One student, Lilli Mae Lane, from Ryde Academy's East Wight Sixth Form, told the County Press her highlight was: "Seeing everyone’s stories, and how they’ve had setbacks but still been able to come back and make the most of their lives."

What was the reaction from the Isle of Wight TEDxLukelyBrook audience?

Jo Muncaster, director of sixth form at Ryde Academy, said: "It’s been a fantastic opportunity for our students to come along and hear from so many different people, with lots of different ideas about making the most of the opportunities, staying positive and making every second count."

Still in early planning, there is a hope that following the success of the TEDx LukelyBrook event, there will be a larger TED Talks event on the Island, over three days.

The aim would be to have over 1000 delegates and 40 guest speakers, say organisers.

Dale Howarth, event organiser and curator, said: "It is all about giving back to the community."
