MORE than 200 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed on the Isle of Wight, according to the latest government data.

Public Health England figures released today (Friday) show 210 new cases.

Yesterday, 220 cases were confirmed, and 208 the day before.

The latest figure takes the Isle of Wight total, since the start of the pandemic, to 28,918.

The Island's rolling rate has also risen.

Always five days behind, in the seven days to January 30, it was 891.1.

Yesterday, in the seven days to January 29, that figure stood at 844.7.

The UK rate is 986, with 84,053 new cases confirmed today.

The latest Isle of Wight NHS Trust data shows 25 patients at St Mary’s Hospital with Covid-19, with one patient requiring a specialist ventilation bed.

A recent surge of new cases is explained by a change in the way the government publishes its data.
