NEARLY 200 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed on the Isle of Wight today (Thursday), according to the latest government data.

Public Health England figures released today confirm a further 195 cases of Covid on the Island.

Yesterday 178 new cases were recorded, and 160 the day before.

The latest figure takes the Isle of Wight total, since the start of the pandemic, to 26,334.

The Island’s Covid rolling rate per 100,000 people has also risen.

Always five days behind, in the seven days to January 22, it was 638.8.

Yesterday, in the seven days to January 21, that figure stood at 626.9.

On the government’s interactive Covid map, some areas on the Island remain blue, while others have returned to dark purple.

The Island age group with the highest Covid rolling rate is primary school children, ages 4 to 9, with a rate of 1,604.

The UK average rolling rate now stands at 942.2.

The latest Isle of Wight NHS data confirms that 24 patients are in St Mary’s Hospital with Covid-19, and currently no patients require the use of ventilation beds.

Today, relaxation to Plan B rules comes into force, with face coverings and Covid passes no longer legally required in England.

However, despite this news, Covid measures are sent to continue at the Island’s hospital.
