One-off grants of up to £6000 will be paid to hospitality, accommodation and leisure businesses that were operating from business-rated premises on the Isle of Wight on December 30, 2021.

The Isle of Wight council has been allocated £5.4m to help some of those hit by the rise of the omicron Covid-19 variant.

The actual amount paid will depend on the rateable value of the business premises.

Apply for the Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant online, via Isle of Wight Council's website, by midnight on February 18, 2022.

A further, smaller fund called the Additional Restrictions Grant is soon to be announced for businesses not eligible for the Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant, including those that do not operate from business rated premises.

Councillor Julie Jones-Evans said: "During the latter part of 2021 the immediate impact of the Omicron variant was felt most keenly by hospitality and leisure, with work from home guidance and more people self isolating.

"The Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant is most welcome to go someway to cover the impact the new variant has caused to this sector.

"I urge everyone one who thinks they may be eligible to check the guidance and apply as soon as possible."
