A FURTHER 160 people have been confirmed with Covid, the Public Health England daily data shows today.

The new cases takes the Island's cumulative total, since the pandemic began, to 24,586 cases.

The Island's rolling rate, five days behind the daily data, is currently 862.3 per 100,000 people.

This is a slight drop from yesterday's 879.9.

The rate is far lower than the UK rate of 1585, although this has fallen significantly from yesterday's 1700.0.

There was a death of a Covid patient on the Island yesterday (Thursday), when an Isle of Wight hospital patient died after contracting Covid-19.

It was the sixth hospital death so far in January and the 364th on the Island since the start of the pandemic, when deaths in the community are also factored in.

The latest available hospital data shows 22 people with Covid in St Mary's, including two on ventilators.
