A NEWPORT woman has been ordered to pay compensation to B&M after stealing wine to satisfy her alcohol addiction.

Nina Hoskins, of Barton Road, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Friday (January 7).

The 36-year-old admitted theft from a shop in Newport, on June 3, 2020.

Prosecutor, Liz Miller, told the court Hoskins had stolen a bottle of wine from B&M, valued at £3.99.

She said Hoskins' last conviction was in 2019 — also for theft — for which she received a fine.

Jim Osborne, defending, said Hoskins had a significant dependence on alcohol at the time of the offence, which prompted her to steal the wine.

He said she was now clean of both alcohol and drugs, and was beginning to get her life back together.

Hoskins was given a 12-month conditional discharge, and ordered to pay £3.99 compensation to B&M.
