A RYDE man told three police officers 'he would take them all on if he had to' while resisting arrest.

Nicholas Foster, of Dover Street, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday (January 4).

The 35-year-old admitted resisting the police in the execution of their duty, in Ryde, on November 30, 2021.

Prosecutor, Liz Miller, told the court officers had pulled up on Dover Street at approximately 10.27pm.

She said they arrived with the intention of arresting Foster — a suspect in an incident three days prior.

Ms Miller said three officers were present, and noticed a male leaving a building who resembled Foster.

The court heard officers approached him, and a drawn out exchange between the two parties culminated in Foster resisting, and being pulled to the ground.

At one stage, Foster was heard saying he would take all three of the officers on if he had to, while thrashing his arms around.

Ms Miller said Foster was eventually handcuffed, and two of the officers suffered minor injuries during the struggle.

Jim Osborne, defending, said Foster pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.

He said Foster was a diabetic, and out of his comfort zone when he left his house.

Mr Osborne said he suffers from anxiety, and had been on his way to work when he was approached by police.

The court heard Foster deeply regretted his actions and fully accepted responsibility for them.

Foster was fined £261, and ordered to pay costs of £34 and an £85 surcharge.
