A RYDE man was arrested for kicking off after police responded to reports of a large-scale fight at a Newport pub.

Ashley White, of Slade Road, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old admitted being drunk and disorderly in Newport, on December 16, 2021.

Prosecutor, Liz Miller, told the court police had been called to a report of a large-scale fight in and outside the Hogshead public house.

She said on arrival, White became confrontational, abusive and disorderly.

Ms Miller said he was warned and told to move on but remained in the area.

She said a short time later, White stood in the middle of the road arguing, continued to be abusive, and was eventually arrested.

The court heard White had issues arising from ADHD and struggled with impulsivity, but had matured a lot and secured full-time employment.

White, representing himself, said he had too much to drink and got a little bit hyper.

Magistrates told White he had been given plenty of opportunities to back off and fined him £123.

He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £34 surcharge.
