AN ISLE of Wight man brought crack cocaine and heroin into Newport Police Station.

Daniel Kilshaw, of no fixed abode, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday (December 7).

The 40-year-old admitted possession of heroin and crack cocaine in Newport, on November 5, 2021.

Prosecutor, Ann Smout, told the court Kilshaw had been arrested for an unrelated matter on the day in question.

She said he was searched while in custody, and 13 wraps — containing either heroin or crack cocaine — were found in his possession.

Mrs Smout said the quantity of drugs discovered and analysed had a street value of around £130.

Kilshaw told officers the drugs were for his own personal use, and he had bought them from a person in Southampton, paying £60 to £70.

Barry Arnett, defending, said the charges pre-dated previous offences of theft and possession of a bladed article, for which Kilshaw had received a community order.

He said Kilshaw did have a drug issue at the time; had lapsed and started to use again.

He said Kilshaw was working with Inclusion, and a recent probation report revealed how he was engaging well and making good progress.

Mr Arnett said Kilshaw was keen to move off the Island, to get away from bad influences and get back into accommodation.

Kilshaw's existing community order was revoked, and he was made subject of a new 12-month community order, to include 30 rehabilitation days and a nine-month drug rehabilitation requirement.

He was ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £95 surcharge.
