THE Isle of Wight’s Covid rolling rate remains well above the UK national average, as local and national figures continue to rise.

Yesterday the rolling rate, which is always five days behind, stood at 547.5, but today that figure has risen to 554.5, according to the latest Public Health England data.

The UK’s average rolling rate has increased as well, up from 457.6 yesterday to 468.8 today.

Today, 91 Covid cases have been confirmed on the Island, after 118 cases yesterday.

These latest cases bring the Island’s cumulative total to 18.946 since the pandemic began.

The Island age group with the highest rolling rate is 10 – 14-year-olds at 1,494.8, followed by the Islands five – nine-year-old age group at 1,272.1.

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust tweeted today that nearly one in five Covid patients who are most critically ill are pregnant women who have not been vaccinated.

Cases of the Omicron Covid variant have now been confirmed across the Solent, in Southampton.
