THE children at Lanesend Primary School put their design and technology skills to the test — creating a cardboard winter wonderland as part of their Autumn term.

The Cowes school held its annual cardboard challenge day on Friday, December 3, drawing inspiration from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

Pupils fashioned objects from cardboard, paper, tape and string, and then, after they all went home, the staff — under cover of darkness — put them all together.

Highlights from a number of designs were compiled to create a final installation.

Elisa Jones, Year 5 lead, said: “Our Autumn term topic has been Pole to Pole, where we have explored all things polar.

"For our cardboard challenge this year, children were asked to design their own polar themed world and how they get there — through a magical portal between worlds.

"This was inspired by a recent trip to the Mayflower Theatre to watch The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe."
