A MAN from Cowes has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving after crashed his car into a lamppost with such force it snapped in two.
Police and paramedics were called to the Racecourse Roundabout, near Whippingham, at 4.07am this morning (Saturday) following a report of a single vehicle collision, it being a Fiat Punto.
The car ended up on its roof and that the lamppost the Punto collided with snapped in two, a Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said.
The 19-year-old driver, arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and without a licence, was taken to St Mary's Hospital, Newport.
He is currently in custody at Newport Police Station following a check-up at the hospital.
The accident caused traffic disruption while debris was cleared off the road and the vehicle was recovered.
