Newport's Lower High Street will be closed to traffic when work resumes on Coppins Bridge after Christmas.

Lights and crossings, at the junction of the busy Newport roundabout and St George’s Way, have been upgraded in recent weeks.

From January 10, after a break for Christmas shopping, the signals in Lower High Street, and those between Lower High Street and on Coppins Bridge itself, will be upgraded.

It means the Lower High Street will be closed to traffic from January 10 to January 28, said Island Roads.

Pedestrian access will be maintained.

The work will mean the lights respond to volumes of traffic and use less energy.
