WITH well over a hundred new positive Covid-19 cases on the Isle of Wight announced, the total is now just shy of an astonishing 18,000 since the pandemic began.

There were 119 new cases today (Saturday), which brings the total to 17,940, according to the latest figures from Public Health England.

Since last Saturday, the total number of cases has risen by 791 — almost identical to the rise the previous week (789).

All cases recorded are Isle of Wight residents.

The Island's rolling rate has also seen another significant spike.

Measured per 100,00 people — and always five days behind — in the seven days to November 22, it is 554.5. 

The Isle of Wight's rolling rate stood at 501.1 this time last week.

The national rolling rate now stands at 437. Last Saturday, the rate was 412.7.

On Thursday, the CCG issued advice about getting a booster jab — now available for everyone aged over 40 years old (as long as it has been six months since receiving a second dose).
