THE countdown has begun for one of the great Christmas events on the Isle of Wight calendar this evening (Saturday).

Terry and Sue Ramplin, of Long Lane, Newport, will be doing their big Christmas lights switch on at 6pm.

Despite Storm Arwen doing its best to dampen the spirits today, the event is still sure to have that 'Wow' factor and bring in a big crowd for the Ramplin's winter wonderland display in their garden — arguably the best of its kind anywhere on the Island.

With last year's event cancelled due to Covid, have been raising charity cash with their popular displays over a number of years — tens of thousands for worthy causes.

The couple have selected Daisy Chains Isle of Wight and the Isle of Wight Prostate Cancer Group as their chosen charities this year.

As ever, Southern Vectis plan to run a Christmas Lights Tour of the Island, which will include a stop off at the Ramplin's home, starting on December 7.
