COULD this be your first step forward to achieving your dream job as a full-time firefighter?

An open day is scheduled to take place in Ryde and will shine a light on what it takes to become a firefighter.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) are getting to recruit its next batch of full-time firefighters and is hosting a second open day on the Island.

Those who attend can find out more about what the job involves, the fitness levels and skills required, as well as the opportunities and benefits a career with HIWFRS can bring.

You will also get the opportunity to ask firefighters for answers to your burning questions and discover what life as part of HIWFS is really like.

It’s also a great chance to learn more about the many ways firefighters can make a difference to the local community in which they live.

Dean Haward, Group Manager, said: “We’ll be recruiting for our next generation of full-time firefighters in January and want to attract those who may not have considered the role as a career option before.

“Being a firefighter is not just about putting out fires and responding to emergency incidents, although of course, that will always remain an important part of the job.

“What we’re really looking for are people from all backgrounds who want to make a difference and help make life safer for their community.”

The recruitment open day will take place on Saturday, November 27, from 10am until 1pm at Ryde Fire Station.
