AN ISLE of Wight man have received a hefty fine after breaching Covid restrictions and hosting a gathering at his flat.

The case of Benjamin Ratcliffe, of George Street, Ryde, was heard at Aldershot Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, November 16.

The 21-year-old was charged with participating in a gathering of two or more people in a private dwelling/indoors, in Ryde, a tier 4 area, on March 2, 2021.

He was fined £1,760, and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £176 surcharge.

Weeks later ­— on March 29 ­— the Isle of Wight, along with the rest of the country, exited the Covid tier system.
