TWO emergency road closures are causing disruption on the Isle of Wight this afternoon (Monday).

In Ventnor, Mitchell Avenue has been closed from its junction with Macrocarpa Road to its junction with Ocean View Road.

In Havenstreet's, Main Road has been closed from its junction with Combley Road to its junction with Firestone Copse Road

Island Roads says both closures are necessary for emergency repair work.

In Havenstreet, the diversion will affect Combley Road, Briddlesford Road, Station Road, High Street, Kite Hill, Mill Square and Firestone Copse Road.

In Ventnor, the diversion will affect Mitchell Avenue, St Boniface Road, Trinity Road, High Street, Victoria Street, Albert Street, Pier Street, Church Street, Alpine Road, Zig Zag Road, Castle Road, Gills Cliff Road and Ocean View Road.

The Isle of Wight Council has warned there could also be traffic delays on the main road between Newport and Cowes tomorrow (Tuesday).

The warning comes as work gets underway to improve the safety and accessibility of bus stops on both the north and south-bound side of the carriageway.
