SUNDAY night’s large fire has ‘completely destroyed’ the old scout hut on The Broadway, Totland.
Fire crews were called at 7.38pm after flames could be seen coming from a disused scout hut.

On arrival, the entire building was well alight and engulfed in flames, and given its wood and corrugated metal construction, there was little chance of saving the building.
There was a huge risk of fire spreading to neighbouring residential and commercial properties due to the fire's size, strong winds, and the radiated heat.
The first crew on the scene, Freshwater fire crew, set about attacking the fire from the west side using two main jets, with two breathing apparatus wearers protecting the parish hall and cars in the car park with covering jets.
Residents were also evacuated from neighbouring flats.
The second crew on scene, Newport wholetime, were tasked with attacking the fire from the east side and at the same time protecting residential flats from fire spread.
The third crew on the scene, Newport retained, were tasked with attacking the fire from the south side while protecting residential buildings on Kendall Road.
The fourth crew on the scene, Cowes fire crew, were tasked with protecting properties further along The Broadway from embers carried in the wind.
The fifth crew on the scene, Shanklin fire crew, were tasked with protecting thatched properties just off Weston Road, also from embers carried in the wind.
Risks encountered by the crews included difficult access, overhead power cables burning and falling, and strong winds.
Fire hydrants, and a water carrier, were utilised to provide water supply to the fire ground.
Working together, crews extinguished the fire and prevented any escalation of the incident by protecting all neighbouring properties with no damage to cars, residential or commercial buildings, and no injuries to residents.
Crews left the scene at 11pm, after damping down, and returned this morning (Monday) at 7.30am to check the area using thermal imaging cameras for any hot spots, with the incident being closed at 8am this morning.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said the hut was completely destroyed by fire and that the cause of the blaze is unknown.
