MORE than 170 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed on the Isle of Wight, new data shows.

Public Health England figures released today (Friday) show 178 new cases.

Yesterday, 82 cases were recorded, and 97 the day before.

The Isle of Wight total, since the start of the pandemic, now stands at 17,003.

The Isle of Wight's rolling rate has also risen.

Measured per 100,00 people, and always five days behind, in the seven days to November 14, it was 470.1 .

Yesterday, in the seven days to November 13, it was 447.

It remains above the UK average, which was 403.1.

Another patient at St Mary's Hospital has died after contracting Covid-19, new data shows.

The latest death was recorded on November 16.

The most recently available hospital data showed five people seriously ill on ventilators at St Mary's Hospital (as of Tuesday).

In total, the hospital had 18 people with Covid on the wards.
