A VENTNOR woman has been charged with drink driving following a crash in Lake yesterday afternoon (Sunday).

Emergency teams were called to the scene on The Fairway at around 3pm, after a car crashed into a lamp post.

Cllr Adrian Whittaker was among those present at the scene of the crash, and said the car dragged the lamp post around 25 feet along the road.

He said he heard an almighty bang that sounded like an explosion, and Southern Electric later arrived to isolate the power.

The driver of the vehicle has since been charged with drink driving.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "At 3.39pm, police received a report of a single vehicle collision in Lake.

"A Peugeot had collided with a lamp post on The Fairway. No one was injured.

"Sitania Hanuska Rose Timms, 34, of Albert Street, has been charged with driving a motor vehicle with alcohol level above the limit.

"She will appear before Isle of Wight Magistrates on December 3."
