CLLR Adrian Whittaker was among those present at the scene of a crash in Lake this afternoon (Sunday) — after a car smashed into a lamp post.

He was joined by Cllr Paul Brading, and the pair had just finished their Remembrance Sunday service around the time of the incident.

"We went to the Co-op Funeralcare for refreshments, and had just finished tying on the wreaths when we heard an almighty bang," said Cllr Whittaker.

"It sounded like an explosion.

"We noticed the car had hit a lamp post, and moved it something like 25 feet.

"The police arrived, alongside Island Roads, firefighters and the ambulance service."

The County Press understands the driver has since been arrested.

Hampshire Constabulary has been approached for a statement.

Earlier today, emergency service teams were called to the scene of a crash on The Fairway.
