AN ISLE of Wight mum-of-two who went out on a driving lesson with a friend who was over the drink-drive limit — with her children as passengers — appeared before magistrates. (2)
Emily Bailey admitted driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, on Baring Road, Cowes, on October 16.
Police on patrol were alerted to a red Mini being driven by a woman with no driving licence.
Officers stopped the car and Bailey confirmed she was a provisional licence holder, but she was not displaying L plates.
The 30-year-old told officers she was on a driving lesson being supervised by the front seat passenger, with her two young children in the back of the car.
Police spoke to the man with her, a full licence holder, but noticed they could smell alcohol on his breath.
He confirmed he had been drinking and was breath-tested — his reading being over the drink-drive limit, said Liz Miller, prosecuting, at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (2).
Bailey, of The Green, Cowes, was subsequently arrested.
Jobless Bailey, unrepresented in court, said: "I'm sorry. I was stupid. I broke the law and I take responsibility for that."
She will have her licence endorsed with three penalty points and she was fined £40 and ordered to pay £45 costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
