Christian Williams spends his life either behind the wheel of a supercar or a microphone.

In the latest instalment of his monthly motoring column, the Virgin Radio DJ and ‘most hugged man in Britain’ gets a fright with some of the latest motoring beasts.

Christian writes: I’m not one for Halloween; I’m more of a fireworks guy in truth. But there’s no doubt that the American scare-fest has become more and more prevalent on the Isle of Wight in recent years.

Isle of Wight County Press:

Christian has been driving the Clive Sutton CS8500GT Ford Mustang.

We never went trick-or-treating as kids and most of my friends growing up had parents who turned all the lights off in the house to pretend that no-one was home, but nowadays you can’t move for the ghoulish merchandise in supermarkets and shops.

Given the amount of sweets on sale, you can bet plenty of dentists are rubbing their hands in delight!

In my day-job at BOTB.com I not only get to hand over the prizes to our three winners each week, I also get to test the very latest cars on the market. And because it was Halloween last week, we got our hands on some of the scariest, meanest motors on the market.

Top of the pile was the insane Brabus Mercedes GLE-700 Coupe, packed with a staggering 700hp and with enough torque to pull Everest onto its side. Oh, and if you want this 3.5-tonne beast to shift, flooring the accelerator will take you to 62mph in just 3.6 seconds on the way to a barely-believable 174mph.

We also had a prowling BMW Manhart MH3-600 which has been turbo-charged to within an inch of its life, a stacked Land Rover Defender Carpathian which houses a 518bhp V8 under its cloak, plus a Mustang Clive Sutton CS850GT which will do well to keep its wheels on the tarmac with 850 horses (mustangs, obviously) straining at the leash.

You don’t need Frankenstein to show you that a bit of a facelift, or some very clever make-up, costumes and additions, can transform an everyday car into a maniacal mutation.

October also marked something of a milestone for everyone here at BOTB — our 600th winner!

Founded in 1999, the company has been going from strength to strength, changing from one winner a month through to three a week. I’ve been involved in nigh-on 300 of those surprises, events that have taken me all over the world as we’ve sought to surprise the winners with the keys to the car of their dreams.

Looking back, there have been some fond memories — the tears that flowed from Tony Overington when he won an Audi RS6 and £100,000 in cash is one I’ll always remember.

You could really tell what it meant to him and his family as we shared in the huge emotion of his win.

Then there were the screams from Belgian winner Fatima Talaia who won an A45 AMG and let out all her emotions once she was sat behind the wheel. It didn’t need to be Halloween for me to feel absolutely terrified.

But there are so many others, from surprising my first winner with a brand new Maserati back in 2016 through to surprises on the beach, on the golf course, to be greeted with a winner dressed only in his underpants when he came to the door and Louise Jones who I surprised when she landed back at the airport from holiday on her way home to Shanklin with a gorgeous new Range Rover!

One person though has just become the first to win all three prizes — a hat-trick of successes which includes a dream car win back in 2014, a watch in the lifestyle competition a few weeks ago and last week he won a Tesla Model Y in the Midweek Car Competition. Rikki Tronson is the envy of everyone, with most wondering how on earth he does it.

Obviously I have to get a new car the hard way but October has been particularly exciting as I’m one of the first ten people to be getting their hands on the new Lotus Emira which will arrive in spring next year and by the time this article goes to print, I may have just bought my all-time dream car — more on that in the next one!

And listen, seeing as we’ve mentioned Halloween and Fireworks Night already, we may as well make it a clean sweep and talk Christmas (*groans*). While some radio stations have already started playing festive songs, here at Virgin Radio we’re a sleigh-bell free zone until December 1. Well, unless Chris Evans has his way….
