There were 16 patients at St Mary's Hospital in Newport with Covid-19 on October 26, and two were being cared for in specialist ventilation beds, the latest NHS data shows.

893 people with coronavirus have been admitted to the Island's hospital wards since records started.

In October alone, eight patients who had contracted the virus have died at St Mary's.

In all, 328 people have died here, either in hospital, or in the community, since March 2020.

Meanwhile, across the Isle of Wight, new cases are being confirmed at around 100 every day.

Yesterday (Thursday) 85 new Covid-19 positives were recorded here and the Island's average rolling rate remained high, at 594.5 per 100,000 people.

New case data is due out at 4pm.
