THE Red Squirrel Survival Trust (RSST) are looking for Islanders' beautiful photos that capture the iconic endangered species through all four seasons.

Four winners will be chosen from the four categories (the four seasons), with entrants encouraged to submit up to three photos.

This year sees the addition of a fifth category for photographs taken by children aged 14 or under, who can submit up to two photos.

A £50 prize will be awarded to the winners of each of the four categories, selected by a judging panel.

The victor of the age 14 and under category will receive a 500-piece jigsaw of their photo.

An overall winner, selected from the category winners, will also receive a year’s subscription to The Royal Photographic Society’s Iris magazine.

Mark Henderson of RSST said: “We are delighted to be launching this competition for the second time.

“Last year’s inaugural competition attracted more than 250 charming squirrel shots from budding photographers the length and breadth of the UK — from the Scottish Highlands down to the Isle of Wight.

“We are honoured this year, to partner with the Royal Photographic Society Nature Group, whose code of ethical practice promotes the highest standards in wildlife photography.

“Images of red squirrels play an important part in raising public awareness of their plight in the UK but it is vital that these images are created responsibly.”

Entrants can submit their photos by post or by email.

The closing date is noon on Friday, December 3.
