FOUR more people have died after getting Covid-19 on the Isle of Wight.

Their deaths were recorded in hospital and hospice settings.

In total, there have been 323 deaths attributed to Covid across all Island health settings since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the latest figures from NHS England, a further two people have died in St Mary’s Hospital, Newport, in October.

The two deaths occurred on October 14 and 15, meaning there have been four deaths in the space of five days at the Isle of Wight NHS Trust.

The latest updates indicate a total of 179 Covid deaths at St Marys since the start of the pandemic.

According to the latest Office of National Statistics data, in the week up to October 8, Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificates of two people who died in a hospice setting on the Island.

Deaths have now been recorded in four consecutive updates in a community setting, either at a care home, hospice, or home.

Before the week ending September 17, no community deaths were recorded on the Island since April.

There have been 144 deaths in the community on the Island, 122 of which in care homes, 12 in homes, seven in hospice, two ‘elsewhere', and one in ‘other communal setting’.

Royal Mail has stated it is experiencing disruption to its Island service due to Covid related absences.

Two of the Island’s most popular food and drink venues, Hungry Bear in Brading and French Franks in Ryde, have been required to temporarily close due to staff being pinged.
