AFTER a positive Covid test postponed yesterday's (Thursday) Isle of Wight Council cabinet meeting a new date has been set to determine the major issues.

Just hours before the crucial meeting, a member of the council's cabinet returned a positive lateral flow test.

County Hall said it was a 'precautionary and sensible' decision to take and close contacts of the person who reported the test are now being contacted.

The meeting could not be held virtually, as the authority had done in the previous year, due to the government not renewing legislation that allowed official decisions to be made online.

That meant for the decisions to be lawful they had to be made in person.

John Metcalfe, the council's chief executive, said: "This decision has not been taken lightly, but with the safety of councillors, staff and the public at the forefront of our minds."

The meeting will now be helped on Monday, October 25 at 4pm instead.

On the agenda, which can be read here, remains the controversial Ryde Interchange project, which awaits the final decision over whether it will go ahead.

Also on the agenda is a wish list of plans by Southern Vectis, including a bus lane at Coppins Bridge in Newport.

The future of Chillerton and Rookley school remains in the balance - councillors are due to decide on whether a public consultation should be launched.

Councillors are also expected to decide on whether or not to launch a Floating Bridge 6 review.
