THE traditional legal service was held in Newport Minster on Monday morning to mark the beginning of the Law Year.

A procession was led from the Isle of Wight Law Courts to Newport Minster by court official Julie Ford.

Among those in attendance was Isle of Wight Lord Lieutenant Susie Sheldon and Isle of Wight High Sheriff James Attrill.

Among those representing the police were Hampshire and Isle of Wight District Commander, Supt Sarah Jackson, and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Chief Constable Olivia Pinkney.

Deputy leader of the Isle of Wight Council, Cllr Ian Stephens, represented the local authority.

Representing the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court was chair of the magistrates Gillian Dale, and for the Isle of Wight Crown Court, Circuit Judge Tim Mousley.
