YARMOUTH RNLI rescued a yacht with engine failure in danger of being swept through the Hurst Narrows.

The lifeboat was launched at 3.11pm yesterday (Saturday) following a mayday report made to the coastguard.

The crew located the stricken 36ft yacht, with four on board, near Colwell Bay.

The yacht was unable to make way under sail in the light winds and against the strong tide.

In danger of being swept through Hurst Narrows, the yacht had been temporarily assisted by a passing boat.

But once they were on the scene, Yarmouth RNLI's coxswain decided towing the yacht back to Yarmouth Harbour, alongside the vessel, was the safest way to assist.

The operation ended at 4.20pm.
