Wightlink’s Fishbourne route car ferries will use the Portsmouth International Port (PIP) on October 16 and 17, instead of the firm's usual Gunwharf Road terminal.

The Isle of Wight ferry operator says it is to allow for essential maintenance of its Portsmouth boarding ramp.

It coincides with the Great South Run, when sailings are usually diverted anyway, to avoid road closures in the city.

The International Port is further out of the city but is not accessible to passengers arriving on foot.

A temporary timetable will be in operation, as journeys will take longer.

Wightlink is also warning of a change to the way cars get on and off the ferry.

Extra FastCat foot passenger services, which run to Ryde Pier Head, will operate on Saturday and Sunday.

Wightlink Chief Executive Keith Greenfield said: "We are sorry if this temporary move to Portsmouth International Port causes inconvenience for some of our customers, but regular maintenance is essential.

"We will be operating extra overnight FastCat foot passenger sailings for commuters, key workers and others who need to travel at this time.

"We advise everyone travelling with Wightlink between Portsmouth and Fishbourne that weekend to be prepared as their journeys will be different.

"Wightlink colleagues will be based at PIP to assist them."

When will the extra services run?

Extra Fastcats will leave Portsmouth Harbour at 10.30pm, 12.15am, 3:15am and 5:15am.

They will leave Ryde Pier Head at 11pm, 12:45am, 3:45am and 5:45am.
