CONNIE Loan celebrated her 100th birthday on Monday, September 27.

On her birthday, she enjoyed a day out with family and had cream tea, sandwiches, and cakes at Luccombe Manor in Shanklin.

Born in 1921 in Sandwich, Kent, Connie was part of the war effort during the Second World War, working in ammunitions, and was proud of her work for her country.

With her first husband, Ron, Connie had two children, a boy named John and a girl named Irene.

Sadly, both died too soon, along with her husband, leaving Connie a widow.

Later in life, Connie met her second husband, John, only to find herself widowed again.

In 2011, she moved to the Island under the care of Betty Persechino, moving in 2020 to Magnolia Care Home in Sandown.

Connie, who has dementia, is known as being no trouble to care for and is loved by her carers.

Her card from the Queen will have pride of place.
